If you have multiple 22 IDEX printers on your network, you can assign each one a unique name to easily distinguish between them. This allows you to connect using a custom name like myprinter.local instead of the default 22idex.local.
You should change your machine's name if:
- You have multiple 22 IDEX printers on the same network
- You want easier identification of specific machines
- You prefer custom naming for better organization
Default behavior:
- All 22 IDEX printers use
22idex.local by default
- If you only have one printer, you don't need to change this
-
Open Web Interface:
- Connect to your printer's web interface
- Navigate to Macros > System > Settings > Network
-
Run the Macro:
- Click Change Machine's Name
The macro will present two options:
Option 1: Keep Default (22 IDEX)
- Machine remains accessible at
22idex.local
- Use this if you only have one printer
Option 2: Set Custom Name
- Enter your desired machine name
- Examples:
printer1, workshop, engineering, etc.
- This name will be used for network access
Note: Machine names should be simple, lowercase, and without spaces. Use hyphens if needed (e.g., printer-1).
-
Enter Machine Name:
- Type your desired name (e.g.,
printer1)
- Avoid special characters and spaces
- Keep it short and memorable
-
Confirmation:
- Machine displays: "Device name changed to: [your name]"
- You'll be asked if you want to apply to Access Point now
Two options presented:
Yes, Apply Now
- Reconfigures Access Point with new name immediately
- Machine will restart to apply changes
- You'll reconnect using new name
No, Skip
- Name change saved but not applied yet
- Takes effect after manual restart
- Allows you to continue current session
Recommended: Choose "Yes, Apply Now" to ensure name change takes effect immediately.
Once the name is changed, you can access your printer using:
Format: [your-machine-name].local
Examples:
- Default:
http://22idex.local
- Custom:
http://printer1.local
- Custom:
http://workshop.local
Important: After changing the name, you must use the new name to connect. The old name will no longer work.
If you have three printers, you could name them:
- Printer 1:
printer1.local
- Printer 2:
printer2.local
- Printer 3:
printer3.local
Or use descriptive names:
- Production:
production.local
- Testing:
testing.local
- Development:
development.local
Problem: Changed machine name but cannot connect using new name.
Solution:
- Wait 2-3 minutes for network to update
- Restart the printer if "Skip" was selected earlier
- Clear your browser cache
- Try connecting via IP address instead
- Verify you're typing
.local after the name
Problem: Changed the name but can't remember what it was set to.
Solution:
- Check your router's connected devices list (shows hostname)
- Connect via IP address directly
- Run the macro again to see current name or set a new one
- Check Access Point name when in AP mode (matches machine name)
Problem: Want to go back to default 22idex name.
Solution:
- Run Change Machine's Name macro
- Select Keep Default (22 IDEX)
- Choose to apply to Access Point
- Machine will reset to default name
Naming Recommendations:
- ✅ Use simple, descriptive names
- ✅ Keep names short (under 15 characters)
- ✅ Use lowercase letters and numbers
- ✅ Use hyphens for spaces (e.g.,
room-1)
- ❌ Avoid special characters (@, #, $, etc.)
- ❌ Avoid spaces in names
Documentation:
- Write down your machine names and their locations
- Label physical printers with their network names
- Keep a network map if you have many printers
- Purpose: Distinguish multiple printers on the same network
- Default:
22idex.local for all machines
- Custom Format:
[your-name].local
- When to Use: Only if you have multiple printers
- Access Method: Macros > System > Settings > Network > Change Machine's Name
Quick Steps:
- Run macro from web interface
- Choose "Set Custom Name"
- Enter your desired name
- Apply to Access Point
- Reconnect using
[your-name].local
