HEPA Fan Test

The Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 has a built-in macro that tests the HEPA filter fan at five stages (off, then 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% power) and compares measured RPM to expected ranges. The test runs automatically, takes about one minute, and writes a log file you can send to support. Use it after replacing the fan, when the fan sounds wrong or stalls, or after a firmware change that affects chamber ventilation.

In the Web Interface, open Macros > System > Troubleshooting > HEPA Fan Test.

All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.

When to use this test

  • After replacing the HEPA fan – confirm the new fan is connected and reaches target RPM at each step.
  • When you suspect a fan fault – loud, vibrating, intermittent, or apparently not spinning; the test shows whether RPM tracks each commanded level.
  • After a firmware update – if HEPA behavior changed, the test separates firmware control issues from hardware.

Running the test

  1. Open the printer Web Interface in a browser.

  2. Go to Macros > System > Troubleshooting > HEPA Fan Test.

  1. Click the macro. A dialog explains that the fan will be tested at different speeds and the test takes approximately 1 minute. Choose Start Test (or Cancel to exit).

  1. The test runs on its own – no further input is needed. The chamber LED turns yellow while the test is in progress. At each stage the macro sets a fan speed, waits about 10 seconds for RPM to stabilize, then records the reading.

What the test checks

The macro exercises Fan 7 in firmware at these levels:

Every stage is written to the log file 0:/sys/logs/hepa_fan_test_log.csv with the set point, expected range, measured RPM, and a PASS/FAIL mark. You can download it from the Web Interface file manager (System > logs).

Test results

When the test finishes, the fan returns to normal thermostatic control (chamber temperature drives speed) and the printer shows the result:

  • Passed – the LED turns green and a dialog reports HEPA fan test PASSED. No further action is required unless you are still chasing noise or vibration.

  • Failed – the LED turns red and the dialog lists the measured RPM at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, with a request to contact support and send the log file.

If the test fails

  1. Check the fan connector. Power off the printer, wait 60 seconds, then confirm the fan cable is fully seated on the expansion board.

  1. Listen for bearing noise. Grinding, scraping, or rattling usually means worn bearings – plan replacement even if RPM sometimes passes.

  2. Re-run the test after reseating the connector. If it still fails, send the log file hepa_fan_test_log.csv to our support team and see HEPA fan replacement.

Factory QC version of this test

There is a second, manual version of this test under Macros > System > Calibration > QC > Tests > Hepa Fan Test. It is used for factory quality control, requires confirming each stage by hand, and checks much tighter RPM bands tuned for brand-new fans.
