E-Stop Button
Replace the E-stop button on the 22 IDEX V4 front panel: identify the unused COM, NC or NO contact, wire the new switch, and verify motors and heaters cut out.
This guide covers replacing the E-stop (power) button on the front panel of the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4. The button is electrically simple - it just breaks a circuit. For what happens inside the printer when you press it, see Power Button: Operation Principle.
Before you begin - safety and risk
Read the Safety - Before You Begin article to understand the hazards involved in working on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 - including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical risks. All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet before starting.
How the Button Is Wired
The button has three contacts:
- COM - common contact
- NC - normally closed
- NO - normally open
Only two of them are used - the button simply opens the circuit when pressed. When disconnecting the old button, check which contact is unused - on the new button, break that contact off (or simply leave it unconnected). The two wires go to the remaining two contacts, and the order of the wires does not matter.
Replacing the Button
- Disconnect the wires from the old button and note which of the three contacts was not used.
- Remove the old button from the front panel. The button body is threaded and is held by a nut on the inner side of the panel. Unscrew the nut by hand - despite its large wrench size, it should come loose without tools. If it does not, use any convenient tool.
- On the new button, break off that unused contact - or, if you are not sure which one it is, do not break anything off and simply leave it unconnected.
- Install the new button into the front panel and tighten the nut on the inner side. Hand-tight is enough.
- Connect the two wires to the remaining two contacts. The wire order does not matter.
Verifying the Replacement
- Plug the printer in and let it boot.
- Press the button - it should lock in and the printer's motors, heaters, and fans should shut off immediately. The touchscreen staying lit is normal - see Power Button: Operation Principle.
- Twist the button counter-clockwise to release it - the printer should boot back up and become fully operational.
