Solid State Relay Replacement

Swap a solid state relay on the 22 IDEX V4 — printer power, bed or chamber heater. Covers wiring photos, mounting orientation and control-pin polarity.

This guide covers replacing the solid state relays (SSR) on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4. The machine has three of them in the rear electronics bay:

  • Printer power relay - switches the 24V power line of the printer.
  • Chamber heater relay - switches the power of the chamber heater.
  • Bed heater relay - switches the power of the bed heater.

The replacement procedure is the same for all three.

Tools and Materials

  • Solid State Relay
  • PH2 Phillips screwdriver (for the terminal screws)
  • 2.5 mm hex key (for the relay mounting screws)
  • Permanent marker (for labeling the wires)
  • Phone or camera (to photograph the wiring before disconnecting)

How the Relay Is Connected

Each relay has two sides:

  • the control side - the low-voltage pins that drive the relay;
  • the load side - the terminals that close to deliver the power.

All wires are fastened to the relay terminals with screws under a PH2 screwdriver. The relay itself is fastened to the chassis with two screws under a 2.5 mm hex key.

Removing the Old Relay

  1. Power off. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord. Wait at least 60 seconds for the capacitors to discharge.
  2. Open the rear electronics bay and locate the relay you are replacing.
  3. Document the wiring. Photograph the relay terminals from several angles and label the wires with a marker. Capture which wire goes to which terminal - on both the control side and the load side.

  1. Disconnect the wires. Loosen the terminal screws with the PH2 screwdriver and free all wires - first the load side, then the control side.

  1. Unscrew the relay. Remove the two mounting screws with the 2.5 mm hex key and take the relay off the chassis.

Installing the New Relay

  1. Mount the new relay. Fasten it to the chassis with the two mounting screws using the 2.5 mm hex key. Pay attention to the physical orientation of the relay:

    • Bed heater relay and chamber heater relay are mounted upside down.
    • Printer power relay is mounted in the normal (upright) position.
  2. Reconnect the wires. Attach every wire to its terminal with the PH2 screwdriver, matching your reference photos exactly, and tighten the terminal screws firmly.

Do not swap the polarity on the control pins

The control pins of the relay are polarized - they are marked + and . Connect the control wires exactly as they were on the old relay. With the polarity reversed the relay will not switch, even though nothing looks wrong from the outside.

Verification

  1. Double-check all connections against your reference photos - especially the polarity of the control pins.
  2. Close the rear electronics bay, plug the printer in, and power it on.
  3. Verify the function the relay is responsible for:
    • Printer power relay - the printer powers on and off normally.
    • Bed heater relay - set a bed temperature in the Web Interface and confirm the bed heats up.
    • Chamber heater relay - set a chamber temperature and confirm the chamber heater works.
